It's Monday? Already? Crap! No, no...I mean, SPARKLES!! Yes, that's it!

I pretty much did nothing all weekend.  It's nice to do that sometimes.  I stressed some about where to go with my story.  I mean, I have a who, what, when, where, and why -- but I have no idea how to tie it all together.  I know it's too soon for me to be discouraged but I am just a little.  My writing and book buddy, K-Rae, basically told me to get off it and suck it up.  (Yes, I called her K-Rae.  That's going to be her rapper name.  She's good at everything, so why not be a rapper?  Well, maybe I should ask her what she thinks about all of this before I set up a gig...)

ANYWAY she's right, I need to suck it up, and just put it all down, and worry about the rest later.

Then I watched this!  This is SO going to be my launch party.  How epic!

I hope ya'll have a great and productive week ahead.  This Friday is the Rachel Hawkins signing!  Totes excited about that!

  1. I hope you figure out how to tie it all together.... when you sit down and just do it! I agree with K-rae (who may begin moonlighting as a rapper) just sit down and do it.

  2. Hey Heather!!! I just HAD to stop by and tell you that I'm sending some surprises (ok, not really, you totally know they're coming, but they're cool anyway!) today. Weeeee!

And I love weekends of doing nothing, they're pretty much necessary from time to time. ;)

  4. hahahaha. rapping you say? this could possibly be the only thing i've not tried yet.... ;)

It will all come to you... this is something you'll soon learn (or may have already) about writing. You can't rush or force ANYTHING. But you CAN'T get discouraged to the point of quitting--don't betray your story like that or your characters will haunt you. I tried to quit once, and I did for over a year. But the characters never left me alone... I owed it to them and to me to finish what I started. And I'm so glad I stuck it out. It's going to be FABULOUS, you just have to "sit down and do it" to quote Melissa up there ;)

  5. Good luck as you continue your story! You'll get there! There's always speed bumps on the way toward your goals but just keep plowing through (and sparkling :))

    Be BRILLIANT,

  7. Yeah, K-Rae is kinda badass and now I want a rapper name!

Okay, since you are new to writing I'll give my (unasked for) advice:

It's a first draft...be fearless and just go forward organically, instinctively. If you have to, do 'drop down' and you can go back and fill that scene or paragraph in later. Keep moving forward.

When you are done with your first draft, READ LOTS OF BOOKS on craft and structure.

Then, armed with a plan, revise and rewrite your ass off.
    Repeat those steps.
    Several times.
    It's a process.

    Hugs,
    Lola
