Hope you're having a great week! I wish I had something clever to write here. I wish I could tell you that I've written 3000 words for my WiP, but I've written maybe 100 words. It's been an exhausting and dramatic week and I won't bore you with the details -- but it involves neighbors, barking dogs, cops, handcuffs, and citations. Seems like it would be good book material, but I don't really know where to fit all that in just yet. I need to deal with it in real life before I can do that, me thinks.
Where do you write your best work? I like working in my office upstairs, but sometimes find myself distracted - mainly by the need to clean and organize this disaster area. Plus, there's a dog that barks 24-7 that grates every nerve that I have. I've tried writing in Starbucks but I find too much is going on - coffee grinders, pissy baristas, music, etc. K-Rae and I tried Borders which wasn't terrible...but I think our Borders is haunted! Or just overrun by the Solar and Lunar Power convention.
So what kind of environment do you write best in? Silent? Full of music? Inside? Outside?
Where is your sanctuary?
In my room (no music while I write or I'll sing and have two threads of words to follow), where I'm contemplating setting up writing space at my desk: currently it is just a remarkably clear desk, not so much inspiring as practical. Needs spice.

I do my best writing in my office with some low background noise.
Sounds like a VERY dramatic week! I write best at a coffeehouse--practically any one will do. As long as it's got that perfect mix of quiet and conversation.

I write better when I am alone. When I don't have anyone peeking over my shoulder but as for the noise level...it doesn't bother me. But writing somewhere like Starbucks would freak me out.
ReplyDeleteI understand how problems with the neighbours can upset your writing. Sometimes we have problems with buglers and vandalisms in our area and then I can't focus for days.

When It's raining (but not cold) I'll sit on the screen porch and write while I listen to the wind in the chimes.
Jilda and I are in the process of converting an old house on the back of our property to a creative space. Once that's complete, I plan to start each day with about 4 hours of writing there....no phones, no internet, no TV, just the sound of wind in the trees.
im content writing any place where my younger bro and sis won't be going 'COULD YOU GET OFF ALREADY I WANT TO PLAY ON THE COMPUTER YOU'VE BEEN WRITING SINCE FOREVER (although it's only been about fifteen minutes). veeeeeery annoying.
ReplyDeleteanyway, as to your question on my blog...books are really hard to get here, as in, the bookstores are not at all well-stocked, at least the YA section isn't. and the books that they do have are waaaayyy too expensive for the common person to afford. like, out-of-the-roof, dude. people BARELY read here, and most of the time only super-popular stuff, like, ahem, twilight, so they just buy the pirated versions of the books (i know, they actually PIRATE books, gah), so no one really cares.
